Blackie (Khatter) is a Mumbai taxi-driver. Pooja (Panday) is a girl on the run. Bump. Rubber meets road, goons and cops join the chase, and other wheels begin to grind. That’s your basic story, which we have seen in bits and pieces in many, many films. Glimpses flash by, of Sadak, Dil Hai Ki Maanta Nahin, Rangeela, and, oh wait, doesn’t that song remind you of Raja and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, and so on.
Some of the elements make you smile. A ‘mela’ by the roadside becomes the site of a game of hide-and-seek played by Blackie and Pooja, and those on their tail. On the back of the ‘kaali-peeli’ (the black-and-yellow cabs, such a Mumbai icon) is imprinted the urban legend, Panvel. The taxi segues nicely into the film’s name, Khaali Peeli which pretty much means, without any aim, just like that, a phrase plucked from that era where ‘tapori’ acts were still new in Hindi cinema.
Here, both leads speak the lingo. Or let’s just say, they try, Blackie coming off better than Pooja, though both sound like clean-cut kids caught dialogue-ing. What helps is both are easy on the eye, with Khatter getting a chance to do the whole hero-giri thing—sing, dance, romance, fight, displaying an impressive set of biceps. He’s creating an outline of and for himself: watch out for him in the forthcoming Mira Nair’s series, A Suitable Boy. The best part about Ms Panday is that neither the script nor she herself, takes herself seriously, and that works for this kind of film.

The khaali peeli is action-packed drama starring Ananya Pandey and Ishaan khatter but there is nothing new in the story line. The same old drama which includes Hero, Heroine, police, music and few emotional scenes. The good part of the movie is the chemistry between the lead pair of the movie and they look good together as they are playing their age. Written by Yash Kesarwani and Simi Agarwal engaging till the climax, but climax is predictable. There is no romantic track, all the songs are rock peppy numbers keeping the fast pace of the story. Ishaan dance was another plus points of the drama. The accent of Tapori is really convincing by both actors. Satish kaushik, who is present for few scenes, but definitely makes you laugh.

It is a failed attempt to make people enjoy a not so funny movie between ananya pandey and ishaan khattar. The movie encourages nepotism in bollywood with no base or story. The movie will drive you crazy in a taxi. Both of the actors being ameture doesn't gives the feeling of watching a good movie as the acting is also moderately disappointing. Further on the direction and cinematography is decent. But a disappointing acting from both the stars.

Khaali Peeli is the usual hero-heroine-villain chase with lots of guns, violence, and of course romance! If you're searching for something unique then this chase isn't for you. This bumpy ride moves at an uneven pace with a flat writing. Yash Kesarwani,Sima Agarwal duo's non-linear narrative confuses at most places but is unique especially the switching of timelines. The initial half of the film is a fun watch but sluggish presentation in the latter portion spoils the whole fun of this journey. Ishaan Khatter gets into the skin of the character smoothly and has given a noteworthy performance. He excels with his sizzling dance movies and is fierce in fight sequences. Ananya Pandey as the glam doll finds it hard to emote yet does a pretty decent job. Jaideep Ahlawat's baddie is nothing sort of different from those badly written commercial villains.

If the movie makers were looking for a commercially acclaimed movie... they could have opted for a Tolly Remake. Ummm...something like Taxiwaala. Ishaan Khattar was effortless but did not suit well with the character. The best part about Ananya Panday is that neither the script nor she herself, takes herself seriously, and that works for this kind of film. Can a new film which is a deliberate hark-back to the masala movies of the 70s and 80s

Finally these two are together on the screen with a thriller comedy movie khaali peeli. The movie released on 2nd October is t what I expected it to be . The story seems to be streched more than it has to be so I felt bored sometimes. Anyway talking about the story Ishaan has done a good job regardless of his copartner Ananya Pandey. Hoping to see them together with more interesting story .

I am not talking about Ananya Pandey here but Ishaan Khattar did a good job with his acting. The movie plot was an average commercial movie whose delivery was below average. The plot wasn't gripping. If the movie makers were looking for a commercially acclaimed movie... they could have opted for a Tolly remake...something like Taxiwaala. Ishaan Khattar was effortless but did not suit well with the character.

The best part about Ananya Panday is that neither the script nor she herself, takes herself seriously, and that works for this kind of film. Can a new film which is a deliberate hark-back to the masala movies of the 70s and 80s, be worth your time? Only if it is smart and self-aware, and never forgets to send itself up, that’s when. Khaali Peeli does an adequate job of assembling the ingredients, and when it remembers to stay light on its feet, it’s fun, but slackens in other parts.

Khaali peeli is One of the best masala action film. Moreover, he has presented the film in a simple yet interesting manner, trying hard to ensure the viewer doesn't lose interest. Among the other best aspects of the film is the casting. The not-so-new, but yet-to-unleash, Ishaan Khatter shines through the film as Blackie. He is seamless as a taxi driver, and being a Mumbaikar, the accent and attitude required for the role come naturally. He strives and succeeds to impress from the first frame and wins your attention in the due course, by taking charge of the screen. There is no doubt that Ananya is a good actor and she has the skill to get into the character with ease.As Pooja, she tries to deliver it consciously, but in a good way, without being pretentious. Playing characters like Yusuf must be a cake-walk for Jaideep Ahlawat, and he does not disappoint. So does Anup Sonii. But the surprise element in the film is veteran actor Satish Kaushik, who is present for a few scenes, but definitely makes your laugh. His experience of captivating your attention, through any roles, shows through his role as a lazy police officer. He is a treat to watch. Overall, the film is entertaining, but one would be hooked, especially in the first half of the film. To sum it up, Khaali Peeli is one 'masaledaar' chase. The film is 113-minutes long, and While almost all of it seems senseless, such films serve to be good popcorn entertainment. Amidst the tension and stress, watching this no-brainer is no-harm.Let's wait for khaali peeli 2. 10 out 10 according to me.Kindly Don't think twice about negative reviews for this movie.Mostly trailer got disliked video on youtube, but I liked the movie.

Khali-Peeli is a disaster! This movie has some pretty bad actors like Ishaan Khattar playing the role of a taxi driver and Ananya pandey playing a dancer named Pooja. But during some solo scenes they did good but when they are together their chemistry didn't work for the movie. The movie was directed by Maqbool khan who choose a very old story for his movie. Visuals were good but music was a disappointment. Overall, plz don't waste ur time watching this movie.

Anish posted a review for Khaali Peeli (2020) in Movies
On a fateful night, local cabbie Blackie (Ishaan Khattar) stumbles upon this pretty – also mouthy and hot-headed – girl Pooja (Ananya Panday). There are goons involved and apparently there’s this history between them, and Pooja, the runaway, seems to be carrying a ton of cash and jewellery. Why does this ‘Aafat’ (by Blackie’s own admission) fall into his lap after all these years and what’s the mayhem all about?‘Khaali Peeli’ is one eventful ride towards redemption, reconnection and, of course, romance! REVIEW: Back in the day, in their native village of Shivpur, when Vijay Chauhan aka Blackie was at the ripe age of 10, his Babuji (Anup Soni) was notorious for being an absolute phattu. But, by pure luck, his son is born with a mean streak and is also an ardent hustler in the making. So, perhaps to prove a point to the villagers and themselves, the father-son duo embarks on a journey of crime that is doomed from the start, again, thanks to Chauhan senior’s namby-pamby ways. Cut to 10 years later, Vijay – now earning the moniker Blackie because of his swindling schemes – is on the run and has settled in Mumbai as a local kaali peeli (hence the name, get it?) driver. But in the current day, the city is fuming with anger as the taxi association calls for a strike for an indefinite period of time until the government meets their demands. Not Blackie though. He refuses to adhere to the directives and looks at it as a window of opportunity to mint money and extract as much as he can from the needy… talk about being morally bankrupt! In comes the salwar-clad ticking time bomb Pooja, who’s clearly on the run from some dangerous people and has a bag full of money and jewels. Her safety, he is not worried about but the hefty moolah, he definitely is. The story of ‘Khaali Peeli’ navigates many a dark alley of Kamathipura (Mumbai’s red-light district) and finds itself back to its place of origin – Uttar Pradesh. What transpires over a period of two days – with a distinct overlap of past and future – is what this dramedy encapsulates. Flicking the back of his collar while lighting a borrowed cigarette in a Rajinikathesque fashion, Blackie makes an open declaration about his persona to the camera. He doesn’t compromise on two aspects of his vagabond-ish life – tashan and ‘emosan’. The opening shot is evidence enough to predict that the rest of the tour is an out-and-out Bollywood masala flick. And director Maqbool Khan delivers on various accounts. There are creepy hooligans with creepier names (sample this: Yusuf Chikna!), there’s the eternal sacrifice constituting the central theme of the narrative, there is an inspector called Tawde and bullets flying all around the hero, who, well, escapes unhurt! And speaking of the pace of the film, the first 30-40 minutes are absolutely packed with quirky dialogues and has an amount of visual excitement that’s appreciable. However, the stumbling block in ‘Khaali Peeli’ seems to be with Sima Agarwal and Yash’s screenplay: the integration of the flashbacks with the current timeline kind of takes away from the momentum of the plot; few hits and a lot of misses. In an attempt to connect the dots and explain the situation that the characters are in, the writers often turn to inculcating emotional setbacks and tried-and-tested tropes that feel a tad bit dragged. Also, the chemistry between Ishaan and Ananya is not one of the most sizzling or believable that we have seen in films in the recent past (there is an awkward kiss, too). Truth be told, the child artists playing their younger selves have a better rapport than these two. By looking at his dominance in every frame, one can tell that Ishaan has worked really hard not only on getting into the skin of his character but also rendering the nuances right – the perfect rolling of ‘Rs’ while speaking the colloquial slang, the cocky walk of Mumbai’s roadside Romeos and basically just being air-light in action and dance sequences. In peppy numbers ‘Duniya Sharma Jaayegi’ and ‘Tehas Nehas’, Ishaan displays the skills of a trained dancer and also reminds us of a younger Shahid. Even in those Patiala suits and that enormous nose pin pierced on the wrong side, Ananya looks every bit the glam gal that she is. But it is almost impossible to imagine her character Pooja leading a dark and disturbing life in the lanes of the unforgiving Kamathipura. The fact that she is putting an effort is evident, but in this role, she lacks the conviction of a girl with a hard life. Heightening the ‘H’ in hilarious are veteran actors Zakir Hussain as inspector Tawde and Satish Kaushik as dumbo-in-denial inspector Bhim. These two humourists add the right dash of spice to the chase that gets us all restless at times. Likewise, delivering solid performances on the grey side of the line are Jaideep Ahlawat as Yusuf Chikna and, to everyone’s surprise, lyricist Swanand Kirkire as the hung-up aashique Choksi Seth. Ahlawat gets you with his deathly glares and occasional swaying of the hair. And Kirkire is what he is portrayed to be – a lustful, potbellied rich businessman. Sure, Vishal-Shekhar music gets you grooving but the three songs that are planted in the movie are just there for the heck of it. Lyricists Rakesh Kumaar and Raj Shekhar have interesting and edgy words to offer in the three tracks that they anchor but, like we said, the songs are a bit out of place. In a nutshell, ‘Khaali Peeli’ has slow-mos and a background score that is faster than the heartbeat of an average young adult and on top of everything, a hot pair leading the show! But it derails every once in a while and you wonder – quite empathetically – why! Then again, if you are missing your regular dose of the larger-than-life heroes on celluloid, ‘Khaali Peeli’ is the turn you take – samajla na?
